Truist, the bank formed by the BB&T and SunTrust merger, keeps the export where you would expect it: right next to your transaction list. There are two different downloads, and they serve different purposes.
Statement PDF or transaction file?
- The monthly statement PDF is the formal document — the one a lender or a landlord asks for. It is laid out for reading, not for parsing.
- The transaction download is a data file covering whatever date range you pick. It is the one to use if you want to add up your spending or find what repeats every month.
Download your transactions from online banking
- Sign in at truist.com on a desktop browser.
- Click the account you want to open its current transaction list.
- Click the download button near the list of transactions.
- Choose a range — the last 30 days, the last 60 days, or custom start and end dates.
- Pick the file type. CSV is the default and the right choice for a spreadsheet; OFX and QFX exist for Quicken and similar personal-finance software.
Find your statements in the mobile app
In the Truist app, tap the account and go to Statements. The app is built around reading and saving statement PDFs; if you want a data file, do the export from a browser instead.
Formats and limits worth knowing
- About 18 months of history. Truist online banking lets you download or print roughly a year and a half of account activity, including images of paid checks and deposit tickets. Older activity means going back through statement PDFs.
- The CSV carries two description columns — a full description and a cleaned-up merchant name. The merchant name is easier to read; the full description is what actually appeared on the transaction.
- It also carries both a posted date and a transaction date. They can differ by a few days, which matters when you are checking whether a charge really lands on the same day each month.
- Pending charges do not appear in the export until they post.
What the file tells you
Pull twelve months in a few passes and the recurring charges stand out immediately: the same merchant name, the same amount, roughly the same date. That list is where forgotten subscriptions live — annual renewals in particular, because they only show up once and are easy to miss when you are scrolling a screen.
Drop the CSV or the statement PDF into ScanCompte and it does that pass for you, sorting spending by category and separating out the payments that repeat. The guides for exporting a Wells Fargo statement and exporting a U.S. Bank statement cover the same ground for other US banks.
