Downloadable activity vs. monthly statements

U.S. Bank gives you two very different files, and only one of them is easy to analyse. The transaction download is structured data — one row per transaction, with the date, description, amount and running balance in their own columns. The monthly statement is a formatted PDF built for printing and for proof of income or address. If your goal is to understand your spending, always start with the download.

Download your U.S. Bank transactions step by step

  1. Sign in to online banking at usbank.com on a computer.
  2. Select the account you want — checking, savings or a U.S. Bank credit card. The process is the same for all three.
  3. In the Transactions tile, click the download icon in the top-right corner.
  4. Choose your date range and the file format you need.
  5. Click Download and save the file to your computer.

One thing to plan for: the download option only exists on the full website. It is not available in the U.S. Bank Mobile App, where you can view and save electronic statements but not export raw activity. If you are on your phone, request a desktop browser or wait until you are at a computer.

Formats and history limits

  • CSV — opens directly in Excel or Google Sheets, and the format to pick if you want to analyse the data yourself.
  • QFX — for Quicken.
  • QBO — for QuickBooks.
  • History — you can view and download up to 18 months of transactions. Anything older is only available through statements, which means PDFs.

That 18-month window is generous by U.S. standards, and it is worth using in full: subscriptions billed annually only show up once a year, so a 90-day export will quietly hide them.

What to do with the file

A CSV of 18 months of activity is exactly the kind of file that reveals the charges you stopped noticing — the streaming service you doubled up on, the app trial that renewed, the gym you have not visited since spring. Once your file is downloaded, upload it to ScanCompte and get a categorised breakdown with recurring charges flagged automatically. The same approach works with a Chase statement export or a Wells Fargo download if you keep accounts at more than one bank.
