PNC gives you two different things, and mixing them up wastes time. Statements are the official monthly PDFs. Account activity is the raw transaction list you can export as a data file. If you want to analyse your spending, you want the second one.
Download your transactions from Online Banking
- Sign in at pnc.com from a desktop browser — the export options are easier to reach there than in the mobile app.
- Select the account you want: checking, savings or credit card.
- Find the download or export link near the transaction list, usually just above it.
- Pick your date range and the file format. Choose CSV if the file is headed for a spreadsheet or an analysis tool; QFX is for Quicken and QBO for QuickBooks.
- Save the file to your computer.
Get the monthly statement PDFs
From the same account page, open the Statements section (also called Online Documents). Statements are listed by period and download as PDF. This is the version to keep for a loan application or a landlord — but it is a formatted document, not a data file.
Formats and limits worth knowing
- Roughly 90 days per download. PNC caps each export to a fairly short window, so covering a full year means several downloads that you then stitch together.
- Virtual Wallet is not one account. Spend, Reserve and Growth each export separately — pull all three, or your picture of the month is incomplete.
- Pending transactions are usually left out of the CSV. A charge you can see on screen may not be in the file yet.
- The CSV splits money in and money out into separate Withdrawals and Deposits columns rather than using one signed Amount column. Some tools expect a single column and need the file adjusted.
- Anything older than the export window is only available as a statement PDF.
What to look for once you have the file
Three months of PNC activity is usually enough to expose the pattern: the same merchant, the same amount, on roughly the same day each month. That is the shape of a subscription, and it is also the shape of the ones people forget — a streaming tier they stopped using, an app renewal, a service that quietly raised its price.
Upload the CSV or the PDF to ScanCompte and the transactions are grouped by category, with the repeating charges pulled out into their own list. If you bank in more than one place, the guides for exporting a Chase statement and exporting a Bank of America statement follow the same pattern.
