A Discover credit card is one of the best places to go looking for forgotten subscriptions: cards, unlike checking accounts, are where recurring online charges tend to pile up. Discover lets you export that activity yourself, from the Account Center.
Two things you can download
- Activity — the running transaction list, exportable as a data file over a date range or a single statement cycle.
- Statements — the finalised monthly PDFs, archived far further back than the activity export reaches.
Export your card transactions
- Sign in at discover.com from a desktop browser. The mobile app is built for viewing, not exporting.
- Select the card if you hold more than one.
- Open Activity & Payments, then Recent Activity — this shows everything since your last statement, including purchases, balance transfers, cash advances, payments and credits.
- Find the download or export link near the transaction list; on some screens it sits behind a three-dot menu.
- Choose a statement period or a custom date range, then CSV as the format. Quicken and QuickBooks users can pick the corresponding financial-software format instead.
For a Discover Bank checking or savings account, the flow is the same but starts from the account activity screen — cards and deposit accounts export separately.
Download the statement PDFs
Still in the Account Center, open Statements rather than Activity, pick the month and download the PDF. Use this route whenever you need to go further back than the activity export allows.
Formats and limits worth knowing
- The CSV export covers a rolling recent window, while the PDF archive goes back years. If a long stretch fails to download, pull one statement cycle at a time.
- The Discover card CSV has five columns: Trans. Date, Post Date, Description, Amount, Category.
- Signs are the other way round from a bank export: purchases come through as positive amounts and payments or credits as negative ones. Check this before summing a column.
- Discover applies its own category to each transaction. It is a decent starting point, but it groups by merchant type, not by whether a charge repeats.
- Pending transactions are not included until they post.
Reading the export
Sort by description and the pattern appears: the same merchant, the same amount, month after month. Annual renewals are the ones worth hunting — they charge once, twelve months apart, and almost never get noticed on a single statement.
Upload the CSV or a statement PDF to ScanCompte to have that pass done for you, with spending grouped by category and repeating charges listed on their own. The guides for exporting an American Express statement and exporting a Capital One statement cover the other major US card issuers.
